Welcome to our flight school! We’re thrilled to have you join us on this exciting journey into the world of aviation. As you embark on your training, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the following important lists: Equipment and Supplies and Signing Up. Equipment and Supplies

Aviation Headset (twin plug)

Headsets can be ordered at most online stores. Like most things, you can spend between $150 and $1500. High-end brands include Bose and Lightspeed, and more affordable brands are Ruggedair and David Clark.

Pilot Logbook

This is what is used to keep track of flight time, and what training has been completed.

FAA Sectional Chart

These maps show airports, airspace, and landmarks necessary to pilots for pilotage and dead reckoning. Please make sure to get the Atlanta sectional.

View-Limiting-Device

This device is used to simulate flying in clouds even on clear days. Please buy a hood instead of eyewear if you wear corrective lenses.

Kneeboard

A Kneeboard is used to keep neat and organized cockpit management. This enables students to take notes during flight and encourages checklist usage.

E6B Plotter

An electric or analog E6B is acceptable. Analog computers are cheaper however electronic are more user-friendly.

FAA Chart Supplement

Formerly called the “Airport Flight Directory,” the Chart supplement shows information about big and small airports. Please make sure to get the Southeast supplement.

Small Legal Pad

Any small legal pad that will fit on your Kneeboard should work.

Aviation Plotter

Plotters are used during cross-country flight planning by reading mileage and direction.

FAR/AIM

Our regulation book, detailing rules to abide by in the airplane as well as information on how to become a pilot. Make sure to order the most up-to-date book, as these are published every year.

Signing Up

At our flight school, we prioritize thorough education and effective training methods to ensure our students become skilled and knowledgeable pilots. The GoldSeal online ground school is an integral part of our curriculum because it offers our students the flexibility to learn at their own pace and convenience while covering essential aviation topics comprehensively. This structured online program not only meets but exceeds industry standards, providing interactive lessons, quizzes, and resources that prepare our students for real-world challenges in aviation. By incorporating GoldSeal into our training, we ensure our aspiring pilots receive a solid foundation in theory and regulations, complementing their practical flying experiences for a well-rounded education that sets them up for success in their aviation careers. Purchase the Goldseal Private Pilot Ground School, and make sure to add your instructor’s email under “My Instructor.”

Private pilot applicants obtain a medical certificate through a certified aviation medical examiner (AME), facilitated through MedXPress, an online platform. This involves a thorough examination to assess physical and mental fitness for flying. The AME reviews medical history, conducts a physical exam, and issues the appropriate certificate (usually third class for private pilots) if the applicant meets aviation authority standards. Please set up a time to meet with a local AME. Upon scheduling your exam you will be asked to fill out a form on Medxpress, and to bring your confirmation number to your exam.
