Private Pilot Training…What is Involved?
Earning your Private Pilot Certificate is one of the most meaningful and exciting accomplishments you can pursue. To earn it, the FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight time, including at least 20 hours with an instructor and 10 hours of solo flying. Most pilots train beyond the minimums, most finishing in 75 hrs. Along the way, you’ll learn real cross-country navigation, communication with air traffic control, practice emergency procedures, and gain the ability to safely handle an aircraft in a wide range of conditions. You’ll also complete an online ground school that helps you understand the “why” behind everything you do in the cockpit.
But beyond the requirements, getting your private pilot certificate is about something bigger. It’s about joining a small community of people who see the world differently. It’s about developing discipline, decision-making, and confidence that carries over into every area of life. It’s about unlocking freedom — the ability to travel, explore, take your family on weekend adventures, and experience the world in a way only pilots can.
Many students finish their training in just a few months, and the journey is filled with milestones that are just as rewarding as the final certificate.
